Olá! Sou Luciana, professora de Inglês e como mencionei na introdução deste blog, acho que muitos alunos fazem muita confusão com os tempos verbais, sem contar que na hora de falar, não conseguem porque não se lembram bem de cada um. Isso é um erro que a maioria comete.

Na minha opinião a grande chave para começar a falar é saber muito bem o Simple Present, é o primeiro tempo verbal ensinado, e é um dos mais usados. Com o Simple Present, você fala de hábitos e rotinas.

Aqui estão alguns exemplos:

What do you do in the morning ? I wake up at 8 a.m, brush my teeth, have my breakfast, then I go for a walk in the park. I have lunch around 1 p.m, after that I play with my children, put them to sleep, surf on the internet, etc.

Como você pode ver podemos falar de muitas coisas no Present Tense.

Outro exemplo:

What time do you start working ? As a secretary, I start working at 8:00 a.m I need to prepare many documents for my boss, who travels a lot. Besides, I translate several documents from English to Portuguese. I am a bilingual secretary.

Outro exemplo com Present Continuos:

What are you doing? I am watching my favorite TV programm, it is about education.

At moment I am writing this blog.

Para você ter uma idéia muitos dos nativos ingleses ou americanos fazem confusão com os Perfect Tenses. Como sabemos existem 12 formas verbais na gramática inglesa, mas ainda podemos classificar como tempos verbais as combinações de conditionals e Future com o Perfect Tense. Para quem quer falar efetivamente o melhor é começar pelo Present Tense.

Percebo que muitos de meus alunos, mesmo estando no curso avançado de Inglês, ainda fazem confusão, quando pergunto, who does he want to take to the party?, Alguns, pensam e pensam e respondem da forma errada. So, I think "how come?"

Outra dica, além das duas formas verbais essências para falar, recomendo que aprenda os artigos e preposições. Os nativos se acostumaram a ouvir nós colocando as preposições de forma errada, mais é muito chato. Nós brasileiros, ás vezes achamos engraçado um americano falar: " A carro vermelho é muita bonito." Ou mesmo ocorre quando colocamos as preposições de forma incorreta.

A melhor forma de aprender a falar efetivamente segundo a minha experiência:

• Procure ler livros que gosta em Inglês, talvez comece pelos mais fáceis, os infantis.
• Procure falar com algum nativo e mais importante não tenha vergonha de falar.
• Aprenda bem o Simple Present e o Present Continous.
• Aprenda preposições e artigos definitos e indefinidos.
• Aprenda o que puder de vocabulário. Tendo um conhecimento grande em palavras você pode se expressar.

Tips to make the best use of your English dictionary.

Following are some tips and considerations on how to make the best of your English dictionary.

• First of all, buy a good English dictionary, it is one of the most useful tools to help you improve your English.
• Study the phonetic tables available on the dictionary and learn the symbols. This will help you understand the pronunciation of new words.
• Learn how to use the stress marks. This is not available on all dictionaries but if your dictionary has them, these will help you understand the syllables that are stressed as in the example below. Understanding the correct words stress is the best way to improve your pronunciation.
• 'pho-to-graph
• pho- 'to-gra-pher
• pho-to-'gra-phic
• Understand he grammar of the words that you learn. For example, if it is a verb, it does not need a preposition such as "in" or "of", is it a regular or irregular verb?
• Understand the definition of the word and try to write down a few sentences based on the example given on the dictionary. Remember that many words have several different meanings.
• Is it a formal or an informal word?
• Is it mostly used in American or British English?
• Group sets of related words with each new word or attach adjectives that describe it to help you make a better association.

All the points above will help you to truly understand each new word and feel confident that you are using it correctly.

Very important that you don't try to learn every new word, concentrate on the word and phrases that you will most likely use on everyday speech.

Other tips:

Make sure you use an English to English dictionary rather than a bilingual one as this will:

• help you practice your understanding of English.
• help you understand the definition of the word as all the examples will be given in English

• help you understand the meaning of the word as many words will not have direct translation to your language.

If you can't understand the definitions, try a more basic dictionary with simple explanations of the words.

Try to make your dictionary your daily companion. Use it all the time and before your know it you will increase your vocabulary significantly and will thus improve the way communicate.
